Traditional Teriyaki Sauce

Ingredients:
1/4 cup soy sauce (the thick kind, found at Asian food markets + 1/4 cup water
2 Tbl sugar
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp garlic powder

Preparation:
Mix together. The ginger will tend to float on top, and the sugar will tend to filter to the bottom. Don't worry about it. Stir until most of the sugar is dissolved, then use it as a marinade (stir up the mixture, occasionally, with whatever food you’re marinating, to remix sauce ingredients and make sure whatever you’re marinating gets a thorough soak) or a sauce (if you plan to use this as a sauce, make it 24 hours ahead, to make sure the flavors combine properly, and shake vigorously before using).
